Micro Car: A New Generation to the Car Family

The classification of smallest automobile is called as micro cars. These cars are generally very small even smaller than the regular city cars. Till 1940, they were called cycle cars but the term bubble car overtook them because of their bubble like appearances. There are various definitions of a micro car. However, all of them agree that the engine capacity should be less than 7000 cc. Along with concept of micro cars there is the concept of micro trucks to provide goods where the regular trucks would be an inconvenience like the narrow alleys.

The basic features of a micro car includes seating arrangements of only two persons including the driver, less than 7000 cc engine, brakes that are cable operated, simple suspensions, 6inches to 8 inches road wheels with 3or 4 in number. Some micro car prototypes have also 1 or 2 wheels. Most of these cars are not fitted with reverse gears. In place of doors, they have lifting bodywork. Generally, less than three meters in length, these cars have only 85 cubic feet of maximum interior volume.

Some European countries like Italy, Germany, Spain, France and Austria does not issue driving license for driving micro cars. Micro cars have addressed the general issues of environmental impact, traffic congestion and parking space unavailability in a very effective and efficient way. Because of their small size handling these cars are rather easy than those of its other heavy weight counterparts since there is a significant decrease in the angular inertia.
