Marquez Happy to Snag Fifth Place After Fumbling First Corner
Marc Marquez, who rides a Repsol Honda, lost his chance at winning the Qatar Grand Prix after he made a mistake on the first corner of the track. His mistake put him in last place, after having been in the front row, but he was able to finish the race in fifth place. Marquez stated that while his fall to last place did make him unhappy, he was pleased to have come in at fifth place and make the eleven points that he made during the race. He says that while it is the worst performance of his career, it is better than no points and he hopes to be back on top by the next race, which will take place in Austin Texas.
According to Marquez, he made the mistake of pushing his bike too hard, and overheating his tires. He should have given his bike some time to cool off after overtaking a few riders, but he continued to push himself and lost his win. He also was able to accept his unfortunate loss because his final result shows considerable improvement within the course of his career. When reporters asked him if he would change any of his strategies upon his arrival in Texas, he jokingly said that the only thing that he would change is the first corner.
