Honda Officially Unveils Its New S660 Mini Roadster In Japan
Honda finally unveiled its two-seater S660 roadster in Japan where it is expected to go on sale on 2nd April this year. Honda is also expected to launch the concept edition of the S660, a special model which Honda states will only build 660 units.
According to Honda, the two-seater S660 roadster is a fully fledged sports car that has an ability to excite and give an “a heart-throbbing experience.” A mid-engine/rear-wheel drive layout backs those statements. In addition to that, the vehicle has a front-rear weight balance as well as a low center of gravity.
The cars open-top body combines both the vehicle’s high rigidity with reduced weight, this is according to Honda. In addition to that the cars S660 has the ability to deliver “excellent cornering performance.”
The vehicle is powered by a 0.66-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. The turbocharger has been exclusively designed for the S660 roadster and that allows it to respond quickly even in an event that there is a low engine rotation range.
The car’s engine has been mated to a 6-speed manual transmission which is newly developed and this makes the S660the first lei-car in the world to be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. The car also is available with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with a 7-speed paddle shifter which features a sports mode.
The S660 also features a first, in that it uses its brake torque so as to apply control in accordance with the vehicles body movement, this system makes it possible for the car to turn more easily.
Despite its small engine, Honda says that the engine for the S660 has a typical sports car sound.
