Cadillac’s new exclusive engine – the 4.2 liter twin-turbo V-8.
Cadillac introduced its new 4.2L twin-turbo V-8 last month marking a start to its high-performance legacy. This is a first ever for the carmaker that placed this V-8 in the heart of the new CT6 V-Sport, a sports sedan.
This new engine provides an exceptional power density of 131 hp per liter. This Cadillac-exclusive has an estimated at 550 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. It infuses the CT6 V-sport with an unparalleled performance and great experience for the driver behind the wheel.
“Designing an all-new engine was the best way to achieve the performance goals for the CT6 V-Sport,” said Jordan Lee, 4.2L twin-turbo V-8 chief engineer. “It builds on Cadillac’s well-established turbocharging know-how and forges new ground with innovative features that deliver exceptional performance and refinement.”
The new engine is a completely new design that introduces unique elements in the design. A project based on mass efficiency, it balances performance with efficiency.
“Cadillac’s performance technology reaches new heights with the new and exclusive 4.2L Twin Turbo V-8,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. “The engineering prowess embodies the very spirit of Cadillac performance on and off the racetrack.”
The center of the TT V-8 features a "hot V" configuration that mounts the turbocharges at the top of the engine transposing the traditional layout of the cylinder heads' intake and exhaust systems. These turbochargers are placed in the valley between the heads to virtually eliminate turbo lag and reduce the engine's overall size. This new system also translates into more immediate power delivery.

This new engine certainly looks different and is more compact with a solid aluminum foundation housing and equally robust lightweight rotating assembly.
