One of the luxurious and sleek sport vehicles, Audi is a German automobile manufacturer that is behind the designing, engineering, producing and distribution of various luxury automobiles. It also oversees worldwide operations from its headquarters in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. There are nine production facilities worldwide. It has always been a majority owned (a whopping 99.55%) subsidiary of Volkswagen Group since 1996 and re launched the Audi brand in 1965 with the introduction of the Audi F103 series.
16 July, 1909 marks the birth of Audi which was earlier named as August Horch & Cie, it is said that the name of the company is the Latin translation of the surname of the founder, August Horch. The first Audi vehicle was the Audi Type A, 10/22 hp (16 kW) Sport- Phaeton, was rolled out in the same year. Later, Type B 10/28 PS was rolled out in the same year. The badge of four rings symbolizes the four member companies of Audi Union, which are DKW, Horch and Wanderer. The two main assembly plants are, Ingolstadt, which is also the head quarter and Neckarsulm and the plants outside Germany is, Aurangabad (India), Bratislava (Slovakia), Brussels (Belgium), Changchun (China), Gyor (Hungary), Jakarta (Indonesia), and Martorell (Spain).
The sales grew steadily in 2000s, with list of clientele increasing from 653,000 to 1,003,000 in 2008. Good amount sales came from Eastern Europe. The tagline is Vorsprung durch Technik which means Progress through Technology. The latest model is Q7. Truly, it is one of the most sports car today.
